Island Town

Tron Theatre, Glasgow & Assembly Roxy, Edinburgh

“Got each other don’t we? And that’s what home is. I think anyway. Not buildings or parks or roads or anything. Just people isn’t it?”

Kate, Sam and Pete spiral through their youth with cheap drink, shite chat and dreams of escape. In a town which offers little hope and even fewer opportunities, they feel older than they should. Time won’t let them go. But Kate’s got a plan, she’s going to get them out. Because that’s what friends are for.

First produced by Paines Plough in 2018, Island Town is a blistering and darkly funny play from award-winning playwright Simon Longman, capturing the ache of growing up in a community that feels forgotten. With sharp dialogue and relentless pace, this powerful three-hander asks: what happens when the world expects you to fail?
